“Ma stajtx nibqa’ fis-sodda, ridt nagħmel kuraġġ”

Dan huwa Thomas, Pollakk ta’ wieħed u tletin sena li ftit tas-snin ilu ġie Malta biex jaħdem bħala tarznar.

Madankollu dan kollu inbidel ħesrem wara li fi Frar li għadda kellu inċident ikrah waqt li kien qiegħed kite surfing fil-Qawra.

“I landed the kite on the beach. My friend came sat for a chat and we were going to continue. My equipment was already set up so I said that I will go first and instead of going to the water the kite pulled me over the land and I ended up on the rocks”

Kawża tad-daqqa li ħa mal-blat, ġarrab ksur ma ġismu kollu, inkluż f’għonqu.

Mis-siġġu tar-roti fil-kamra tiegħu fl-isptar Karen Grech, Thomas spjegalna li kawża ta’ dan il-ksur spiċċa paralizzat, f’dak li ddeskriva bħala perjodu iebes ħafna f’ħajtu.

“ITU was a very very tough period for me. I had to adapt to my new life and thanks to the staff in ITU I went through it quite well”

Il-proċess ta’ fejqan għal Thomas ġab miegħu sfidi kbar, ewlenin fosthom li jinsab eluf ta’ kilometri ‘l bogħod minn familtu.

Madankollu l-progress li qed jara f’saħħtu qed jimlih b’kuraġġ biex ikompli l-proċess iebes tat-terapija.

“Karen Grech is a rehab centre so we do alot of exercises every day. We do like 4 hours which is quite alot but when I see imporvment it gives me a further push in order to get better”

Minkejja li sport simili bidillu ħajtu f’leħħa ta’ berqa, Thomas qalilna li x-xewqa tiegħu hija li ġaladarba jmur lura f’pajjiżu, ikun jista jipprattika l-Paragliding.

“I’m planning to do paragliding the hardest thing would be to fiond an instructor who will give me a licence because as far as I know there is not alot of people in the world doing the sport with my level of injuries”

Mistoqsi dwar minn fejn qed iġib dan il-kuraġġ, Thomas stqarr li l-esperjenza ta’ 3 xhur fl-ITU saħħietlu l-karattru.

“It has to be in you I saw people at ITU. maybe not the same injuries of mine. ITU is intensive therapy unit you don’t go with a broken hand. and I said to my self that crying won’t be helping so I said to myself let’e be strong”
