Rainbow Productions Limited was founded in the late 1980’s to operate Super One Radio and eventually Super One Television, now known as ONE. In September 1990 the company’s name was changed to ONE Productions Limited.
ONE Productions Ltd’s came into being with a mission statement to carry forward the marathon task entrusted by the Malta Labour Party to Rainbow Productions.
The new Company’s mission statement was the production of audio-visual programming of universal appeal to Maltese audiences. Its radio and television schedules were to include a mix and match of informative, educational and entertaining productions of the best possible production and content quality.
In spite of financial constraints, the Company embarked on strategies to fulfil its mission and to function within the corporate imperatives of a commercial audio-visual station. These strategies included the strengthening of the human and technical resources of the Company. A vigorous sales and marketing department was set up and trusted with the aggressive selling of innovative and highly popular schedules. A new impression of the corporate image was designed and the face of ONE was enhanced with vibrant graphic design of corporate logos and programme signatures.
The company’s administration and programmes/broadcasting, News and Current Affairs Department both its administration and transmission of programmes, is located at Marsa Industrial Estate.
The Board of Directors, the Managing Director and Management Team run the company’s administration.
The company employs 50 full time staff, over a hundred part time staff and numerous contributors. ONE's staff is a team of dedicated broadcasters whose average age does not exceed twenty-five years.
The entire team understood the direction the company decided to pursue and committed themselves totally and loyally.
The results were the high ratings registered in recent survey results. ONE retained its position as the most popular local station, and by March 2000, ONE won the first place in the ratings list as the most popular television station in Malta. The audience has voted ONE Radio as the most popular radio station since it started broadcasting. This success in popularity ratings brought about increased business and a constant flow of talent that expressed its preference for ONE.
ONE is the only radio station in Malta that transmits live on a twenty four hour basis. It was also the first privately owned radio station to be granted a license to broadcast by the Broadcasting Authority.
The challenge that ONE Productions now faces is to sustain this success story and to widen its audience base still further.
With the ever-growing intensity in the competitive arena of media pluralism in Malta, ONE will continue to strive for excellence and increase its relevance to the Maltese publics while promoting the ideals and political aspirations of its shareholders, namely the Malta Labour Party.
